Or Maybe Not.. Never Know

Wait! Time out! Hold the press! The moment has come!! THIS IS MY LAST BLOG! Yeah yeah i know what you all are thinking. You are so happy that you do not have to comment on the crazy political girl's blog who can not spell worth a flip anymore.
In all honesty writing this blog has been kinda fun. Especially when I had a real issue on my mind I had a chance to think it out fully. I like to express my views about issues because maybe in some way someone will get something out of what I have to say. You know maybe even learn something they did not know before they read my blog. But I will say that Im kinda glad to have the whole blogging process over. I mean it was great but I could never ever remember to write the dang thing. I was always looking up at 2:30pm on Sundays and going "O crap I forgot my blog." Also there were weeks when nothing would phase me too strongly to even blog about. I would just stare and stare at the computer hoping something would come to mind. Besides since the blog was a grade that automatically put a label on it. Because I knew I had to do it and so I was always worried about forgetting to write my blog and recieving a lower grade. So I always saw it as "the dreaded blog." I never had the time and would put it off so it seemed that much more like the "dreaded blog."
As I look back I know i enjoyed the blogging because sharing my ideas is a fun thing. I hope that someone may have gotten something out of my passionate feelings about politics. Who knows when something stikes me I might be back on here.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://katelynriley101j.blogspot.com/2008/12/perhaps-last-blog-or-maybe-not-never.html' title='Perhaps the Last Blog.. First off if they recieve theis money they are just going to need more in a few months. This is because no one else is in a position to buy the vechicals they are produceing so there for the system will be no better off than before. It will just put for the outcome further while wasting valuable money that our government does not have to just hand out. When the government just hands out money what kind of presidence does that set. If the government hands out money to everyone then all companies are going to expect the same help. When in truth everyone is in the same financial jams. So people are going to have to stop being greedy and live within their means so that debts can be paid off and the economy will then start back rolling.

If the big three of the auto industry needed money so bad how come they were able to fly all the way to meet Congress in a private company plane? If the owners of the company were that desperate for money you would assume that they would dip into their pay check to save their company. But in truth they do not really care about the middle class people to put in the real work at their company bc they know they are safe since they have multiple personal billion dollar accounts scattered around the nation. Its time the big corporations take a serious stab and are taken under control. Big business is hurting the American economy and its our own fought. Now we have elected the most inpxperienced president of all time in the most crucial time. So we will see how this pans out.

If Congress votes to replenish the auto makers banks I as a voting citizen insist that very strict guidelines are made and followed to dipict how the money is spent. It is sad for the people whose jobs will be lost if the big three go under but at some point it must stop. Give the billions of dollars to the middle class who loose their jobs and the money will benefit the economy way better. If Congress votes yes they will just be continuing the circle of debt.

Christmas break

It's Christmas season!! I LOVE this time of year!! The smells, the sounds, the music, the movies, the food, the busy Christmas schedules, and of course the real reason for the season. I cant wait for Christmas cantatdas. I love being in them and watching them. They are freaking awesome. The only thing that will be hard about Christmas this year is being away from my new family at Mississippi College.
I have made so many close friends since i moved in that its sad to have to leave them for three whole weeks. yES mY time will be filled with my family and friends here, but it will still be hard. I mean take Thanksgiving for example I believe I recieved so many phone calls from my friends from Mississippi College that my mom is gonna kill me over my phone bill. I know that everyone can not wait to get back to Mississippi College just because we are ready to be back to our other family. Most certainly not because Mississippi College is just boiling with fun.
I came home and hung out with old friends but its just not the same. I cant believe how much they have all changed. Its obvious that we have all moved on the different places in our lives. But my friends at Mississippi College are on a similar path as me. So therefore our lives are better suited together and my best friends from high school are now just people of my past who I hold awesome memories with. They were perfect for high school but most of them only went to the Thirteenth grade and plan to never leave my hometown. That will not be my future if i can help it at all.

Making Fun

Why is everyone at MC so dependent on bars and alcohol for fun? Why do we insist on telling ourselves we are so miserable? We complain that Clinton is the most boring place in the world, but honestly what does Clinton have that other places dont? I mean truly MC could offer more places for members of the opposite sex to conversate besides the few designated places and times that they currently offer. But in alls seriouisness MC has just as much to offer as any other place. It not what there is to do that is important, it is who is with you. At MC we all could make our time here enjoyable if we would just stay here at MC instead of running home to friends who are moving on. We have to make our fun. Other college towns offer nothing better than what we have. And if they do it costs money and lets face it we all complain that we are broke and know that we must save up on money.
So next time you want to complain at MC just review yourself and ask if you are doing anything to try and have fun or are you just complaining. My friends and i have been searching out and have found a lot of palces to have fun. Instead of complaining we have took the initiative to learn new places and make fun and memories with each other. Back in the "olden days" people made their own fun and they survived. Now in the technology dependent society that we live we should definitly be able to find something to do. We have more opportunities than ever.

GENERATION:WE MUST NOT FAIL

Well the course of American Histroy has been changed once again. The 2008 presidental election revealed a dark days ahead. I am not in agreement with obviously the majority of the voting population of American, but my fate rests in their candiates decisions. The election revealed a lot. The American people no longer have faith in governement and are just looking for a quick fix but i will stay off the economic issues.

The elections left the republican party out on a limb holding on for dear life. The republicans do not have majority anywhere. But still they can have an effect if they stand together. I predict that the Republican party's road of existances is about to hit a dead end. This election was the last straw to break the camels back. The party is now split and the American people are loosing faith in its decisions. But that is not to say the democrats are any better because i believe they are just as confused on what to do about the existing corruption and economic issues. But through out history we have had many parties born and die. Is the Republican empire almost dead? Well only time will tell but i will not be surprised at its end. One party that neither side of the fence should let die is the MIDDLE CLASS. I hope our next president is able to control that unthinkable horror.

Though this election was a sad day for me it does not mean our country should divide. Our issues are divided but our purpose should be united. Our purpose is to fix this country. It is neither sides fought but both sides must fix the problems. Though i do not agree with Obama i will give him a chance and survive his Presidency. If he falls our entire way of life fails. This is another example of how strong our country really is because it is another peaceful transfer of power from party to party. It has happened many times and it is one aspect that sets us apart because no are no coups or riots that destory our government system. Instead we all come together when times are hard. This is our generations turn to step up. It really is our generations first real hardship and it will decide just how strong and determined we are still. And do not ever think that all the eyes of the world are still upon us. Because they are now more than ever. We are a guiding light and an example so WE MUST NOT FAIL!!

Drunk Driving

This weekend I witnessed the epitome of a drunk driver. It was absolutely ridiculous. The driver of the vechical was crossing back and forth over three lanes. Numerous times the driver nearly steered his vechical into the ditch and bridge railings. Drunk drving is the most selfish, irresponsible thing a person can do. How hard is it to find someone to drive you around if you r decide to intoxicate yourself.

Im not saying that im aganist drinking. That would be hypocritical of me. Instead im saying that a little responsibility is not too much to ask. It is just a courtesy to other people on the road. Drinking is a favorite pass time for so many people especially younger generations. But it is way to easy to find a DD to risk other peoples lives. If for some reason you have been drinking too much and cant find a DD why not just stay put where you got drunk? Is the guilt that you will have for the rest of your life if you kill someone while drinking and driving worth it?

I have no pitty for anyone who is pulled over and recieves a DUI. Anyone who is pulled over and recieves a DUI are recieveing their just desserts. Drinking and Driving is a big no no. So many teens want the drinking age lowered but why would legislation agree to such a law if 21 year olds cant be responsible enough to not drink and drive themselves. So people need to grow up and quit being so selfish.

Economics

Ok students it time to talk money. Look at our economy. Even though for the most part our parents are still our bank we can still notice. It has got out of hand and only we can do something about it.

Gas prices have soared to record numbers even though they are down now do not count on it for very long because after the elcection that may not be the case Every family in american is feeling the effects of the ecomomic slump. But it is a lot of our fault. People are living out of our means which is hurting the economy. But its not just gas prices it is everything. Food is up public services are up. You name it, it has probally gone up.

To help this ecomonic turmoil we have got to start paying ourselves first. Instead of spending every cent of paychecks, we need to put money in savings as a safety net. Everyone falls on hard times so why not be prepared. Instead of people trying to keep up eith the Jones's why not just buy what you can afford. Is having the best clothes or car of anyone in town worth being the deepest in debt? You make look on others and find yourself wanting what they have, but to your surprise you could find out that they are the ones asking the bank for loans the most often. Also, credit cards are killing people. They should be outlawed or at least the rules for one should be equivalent to buying a gun. Why in the world is it necessary to use them for frivilous wants. I can see where there are situations that credit cards are handy, but to use them to buy wants is irresponsible. If you don't have the money to buy it just wait and save your money for another day.

Another reason is greedy business people. If the business people of today still cared about the wellness of our country we would not be in the jam we have found ourselves in today. Instead of putting the needs of fellow citizens first its more about how much money can be drained from fellow citizen's pocketbooks. Is the intrest rates and non fixed rates necessary? Why is it legal for a person to buy a house at a certain price where they can meet the monthy note then the next year the price is outrageous? Is it too much to ask to have a decent place to live. Where is THEODORE ROOSEVELT when you need him? We have got to do something about all the corrput dealings going on in the business world. So hopefully our next president will have the gumption to handle such situations and get the country back on the road to prosperity. But first the American citizens need to re think how they spend their hard earned paycheck

PLEASE VOTE!!

With less than ten days till the long awaited 2008 election, I hope and trust you have all made plans to vote at some point. Do not ever think your vote is pointless, because every vote counts. There are so many examples of when one vote was the major factor in decideing the future of this great nation we call home. For example in the Election of 1800 Thomas Jefferson was elected President by one vote in the House of Representatives after a tie in the electoral college. Just think how important that one vote was because Thomas Jefferson is one of the most highlighted figures in our American history. Without one vote Alaska would not ever become one of the fifty states, because one vote allowed the Alaska purchase. That vote opened up new trade and new resources for America which equals profit. In 1845, the U.S. Senate passed the convention annexing Texas by two votes (27/25). I mean come on, where would we be without Texas. Lets face it "The United 49 States of American" that just does not sound as good as 50.

There are many more examples where history was made by just one or two votes. So in all honesty could you live with the fact that maybe if you had voted your canidate might have been able to win? Why risk it? Voting is a right that is protected by the men and women who serve in our armed forces. So not voting is like slaping them in the face because they work hard everyday putting there life in harm's way to ensure each and every citizen's right to vote. And im not talking any kind of vote. Here in America we have a choice to vote whichever way we believe is necessary. We are not pressured to sway a certian way which is a luxury though most people do not realize this. So thank the American forces by exceriseing the freedoms they fight for instead of letting them go to waste.

It only takes a little extra effort on one day of the year to vote. This election could very possibly be one of the most important elections we have had in a long time. Right now our country in not as stable as in past years. A little tweaking is necessary. So as citizens we need to elect the best canidate to do the job. I know a lot of people are voting based on color, age, or other unimportant reasons, but those people need to wake up and realize the real issues facing our nation right now. The decisions and plans to be made and carried out by the next President could very possibly be the most important decisions made for our country in a long, long time. There is so much going on in our country that has been left unattened and now we are reaping our counsquences. So no matter who you are please vote with your head instead of your eyes. Research your canidate, see what plans they have to decide your future. Yes, YOUR FUTURE, because the decisions to be made will affect this generation more than it will your parents. So do not settle for what your parents believe, do your own decideing. And when you're done with your research you will come to the conclusion that your should vote McCain/Palin!!!!

Service

I am here today to bring a question to the table. Should service projects be a punishment? Is that not an oxymoron in itself? I agree that there should be punishment for a persons actions. But should a normal volunteer action be used to reprimand a person? Volunteer work is exactlly what it says VOLUNTEER work. I believe it is wrong to use volunteer work as a way to punish. Mississippi College stresses the importance of service a lot even in the mission statement it is discussed, yet it is used as a punishment which discourages a person from every wanting to participate in such an action again.

As a general rule a person is less likely to enjoy or get much out of an activity that they are forced to participate. So therefore the enjoyment of the activity is ruined. Service is an action that people should be compelled to participate in out of the goodness of their heart and for their love for mankind. Any job a person takes on they are more likely to be productive if their attitude is right and its hard to have a good attitude for something you just dont have time for at the moment but you're being forced to accomplish.

So maybe certain organizations should rethink their ideas for punishment. Well I hate this blog is so short but time is very limited for me untill OCT 30.

First trip to the movies ever!!

This blog has been a struggle. First off I have absolutely no idea what to blog about this week. Secondly I am trying to write this from my home computer which is a struggle because i live so far out into the woods that DSL does not reach my house. So I'm stuck with dial up.

I cam home for fall break at the request of my Father. I made the two and a half hour drive Friday afternoon. Not much had changed at home. And after one night i was ready to come back. Home is great but I still for some reason like being at Mississippi College. It has been great sleeping in my own bed and getting to shave my legs sitting rather than standing up in the Mississippi College stall showers, but they keep me busy when im home.

Saturday night i got a once in a life time treat. My grandmother asked me to go to the movies with her. This is a surprise since i dont believe she has ever sat down long enough at home to watch a tv show much less a movie. But she wanted to go so I of course went. The movie she wanted to see was "Fireproof" she had heard about it at church. We got to the show and Granny, as I call her, was looking around because she had never been to the "movie house" she said. Granny was raised in the backest part of the woods. She is for real old time country. Just taste her food and you can realize that. We got a coke and sat down. We watched the movie and left. Granny really enjoyed her first movie trip.

The movie itself was decent. Probally would have been better if I had been a young married girl. If I was a crier it probally would have been a tear jerker, but if I'm crying Im dying so that was not the case. It explained the purpose and seriousness of marriage and how it is meant to be a life long commitment. It made it's point in a world of rising divorce rates and a world where people just dont even bother to get married. The whole purpose of marriage has lost its meaning in the lives of people these days by the way it has been abused. Maybe on day our Nation will turn back to God and find their morals again but I dont see that happening. I just hope those who still have an ounce of moral fiber left in them will not let it fade.

6.A little fun too much to ask for??

Honestly, why can't MC be like all the other major Universities. Last night our football team was in a close game, but people were still leaving before the game was over. I mean honestly and first off, what else was there to do besides watch the game and support our team. I have never in my life heard such a quiet crowd after a win. The tail gating was a lot of fun and for about 30 seconds I thought that I was at a regular universitiy. Mississippi College has gotta step it up.

Believe it or not there is nothing wrong with a little fun. I mean if there was more to do around here and the rules were not worst than home maybe the transfer out rate wouldn't be so high. I mean the tail gating was fun but it could have been better. I just wish Mississippi College would lighten up a little bit.

Dont misunderstand me, because i have really liked my time here, but so many people are wanting to transfer next semester that i have become friends with here. I hope a lot of it is just talk because i do not feel like starting over. But i know a lot of you can agreee that Mississippi College cant afford to lighten up some.

5. Concert Junkie

As great as Mississippi College is it is always nice to branch out and get out of the Mississippi College bubble and see what else is going on in the Clinton area. This weekend I took a break from the over excited rushees. I went to an awesome concert in Jackson. I am not in denial with myself, I can fully admit that im a concert junkie!! I got a job the summer before my junior year just to fund my habit.

I went with my friend Tyler to see Theory of a Deadman and Black Stone Cherry. It was a pretty sweet concert. This was only Tyler's second concert to attend and his first was with me the Tuesday before. The first concert was to see Egpyt Central and we were surprised by an awesome warm-up band called Midnight to Twelve. It was a nice change from all the tests, quizes, and lectures.

The Rush events have been quite.. um.. peppy. The dress up nights were crazy and I enjoyed them. Though I still have not firgured out why I had to dress like a ninja. All the rushees got really into the whole dress up scence. Guess it was the the nostalgic little girl in us all. Everyone is very anxious to know which tribe they are to be a part of even though some have not even been able to narrow down their pref list. I hope each girl gets the tribe she wants most.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://katelynriley101j.blogspot.com/2008/09/5-concert-junkie.html' title='5. Friends don't let friends vote democratic

I know we are having been learning so much about what MC college is supposed to teach students and one thing is responsibility. Well in November the Presidental election will take place. And I personally hope everyone is registered to vote and if for some reason they aren't I hope that can be fixed in the very near future. This election has intrigued so many people in the younger generation. College age students are finally realizing that they are in the real world now and the little bubble that their parents created for them has been busted.

I hope people in my generation will take advantage of all the technology we have avaliable. There is so much to learn about the candidates and their running mates of this major election. Both sides are plaguing the media with every bit of dirt with a touch of yellow journalism. It is up to voters to do a little research in order to be informed.

This really is a major election. We have a black man and a woman on the ticket so which ever ticket is elected it will be history. It's our responsibilty to get out there and control to turn out of this election. It has actually been a productive and fulfilling visit so far. As soon as I walked into the door I was greeted with hugs from my grandmother and my daddy tried not to act excited. But I could hardly sit down before the game of one million questions started. I answered as best I could, but all I really wanted was a nap in my own, rather large bed. I quickly was reasured that a little rest and relaxation was not in my schedule. As soon as my mom got off work and got through with her set of one million questions we were all headed to Poplarville, MS to see my little, only by age, brothers play football. It was really exciting to finally get to see them play. They love two thing, food and football. They are twins which reveals a competitive side no one, but other twins can even possibly understand. At the game, I caught up with old coaches and friends. It was really a nice experience and worth coming home for. When the game was over my old team was easily victorious. The final score was 37-6. HA HA HORNETS(former rivals)

After the game, I had plans to go hang out with some friends, but my daddy insisted that I wait on my brothers to get home. For once I was glad I waited, I don't know what got into my brothers but I don't think I would be too far off the mark if I said they missed me. They walked right by my daddy with out even having the "after the game talk" with him. They too started asking so many questions. I answered but I was a little surprised. I even gots hugs from them (my family is not very affectionate). They had heard from my mom, who for some reason I thought could keep hushed, that I had been on a few dates. This was their main concern and where the concentration of questions perspired. So I guess I can admit it was really enjoy able and I even kinda missed the homestead.

I believe the man who's works we have been analyzing so closely should write an "It's gonna be ok" book for my parents. Good grief I still do not know if it would work. My parents are the only ones who need to be studing such material. I'm not having any seperation problems or stress like they are having daily. I dont know how they had so many questions for me when I got home because they call or text (sometimes I wish i had never taught them how to text) every five seconds. Though the assigned text is well written and actually a good read, the subject is losing intrest. Anyways, it was great to be home but horrible on this blog because i have not been able to focus so its really random. MC attemts to prove its physical development as it promises in the mission statement

Hello bloggers.. I hope im doing this blogging thing right but its worth a try. I attended the "Backyard Brawl" as I hope everyone did last night. It turned out to be a little embrassing, but I hope it dosen't leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth that will keep them from returning to support our wild choctaws. Football games are a major part of the college experience and I wouldn't miss them for anything even though I've been a HUGE football fan since birth. I noticed that the Mississippi College campus was likea ghost town by seven o'clock friday evening. This was a disappointing realization. I mean all during high school I hear kids complaining about how they can't wait to to go college and get out of the house, but now look at everyone, every chance students get they are running back home to mom and dad. Look football is a way to get to know everyone on campus even if football is not your style it's a fun, cheap way to have fun. I just couldn't believe that the first football game of the year everyone went home. There was a good turn out, but it could have been better. I have to hand it to the cross-country team they had the most inspireing display of spirit. I hope that eventually students will realize that its okay to leave mom and dad alone for one weekend so they can start a life of their own.

For everyone who did miss the game, i'm sorry, because there were some fellow freshman who stepped up. Though the score was really.. um.. disappointing we still have to remember that it was the first game and maybe they needed it to work out the kinks. I hope my optimistic prediction is ture. I hated that our offense was not able to put even one touch down on the board but in a different light we do know our team can kick field goals. In the MC mission statement it promises physical development. Well it's safe to say our football team is still developing.

Now next weekend the football game is away so students you missed your chance for awhile. But there are so many activites on campus not just during the week. So do yourself a favor and get involved. Gas prices are still high you'll even save a few bucks if u just enjoy your new home for awhile. Might as well get familiar with the place because for a lot of us it will be our home for a long time!!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://katelynriley101j.blogspot.com/2008/09/2-mc-attemts-to-prove-its-physical.html' title='2. My name is Katelyn Riley and I am a freshman here. I came here not knowing anyone which has quickly changed. MC was not my first choice, but then again I hardly knew anything about the establishment. I was die hard for Ole Miss, but then i started doing some pros and cons and realized that MC would prob be a better choice. Now MC is starting to grow on me.

I am here at MC for pre-law. But I am hoping to stand firm on the decision to major in political science and minor in journalism. All three are fields that I have a true (as geeky as it may appear to some) passion. I want to be a leader for my generation. I know my country has much better potential in these changing times and I wanna make sure we reach a peak again.

Politics is not my only passion. I really love to sing but right now I have no voice due to my lovely sinus problem. I played sports all through high school like basketball, softball, and soccer. I learned how to wakeboard my junior year and loved it. I miss all my friends and family in the little(but growing we got a waffle house) town of Wiggins, Ms. But life is about moving on and new experiences and I'm ready to make a life of my own.
